2010 Scholarships and Awards Winners
“I was thrilled to win the 2011 Polsky Academic Achievement Award for my Master's thesis. Earning this recognition made me feel that the many hours that I spent on it were worth the effort. I believe that design research is critical in today's information age and am glad to see that the ASID Foundation supports this area of the field. It is important to show that interior designers understand and can build a business case for specific design choices, especially in today's tight economy. Smart clients want to know that their designers are making educated, studied decisions and not operating on instincts alone.”
“I was drawn to the topic because communal tables have become popular design elements in the past 15 years, despite that little research has been done on their true use by diners. I believe that restaurant owners want to know whether or not these expensive and massive tables are worth the substantial up-front investment they require.” - Eileen Daly Vitelli, Allied Member ASID
“Receiving ASID’s Legacy Scholarship has been a true testament to dedication and perseverance in my design experience, education, and personal life. I feel fortunate to have been recognized for the work I so passionately pour myself into and couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion to my undergraduate studies. This scholarship has only further fueled my drive while laying a foundation for continued growth and experience as I transition into the professional field of design.” - Chelsea Lawrence, Student Member ASID

The Joel Polsky Academic Achievement Award is given annually by the ASID Foundation to recognize an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student’s interior design research or thesis project
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported a 1,600% increase in the number of individuals between the ages of 6-22 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), just since 1993. ASD experts state that the design of educational spaces for these children is based largely on anecdotal information and little is agreed upon. Funding by the ASID Foundation’s Eno Grant will enable me to launch the first phase of a larger study intended to identify and subsequently disseminate evidence-based design criteria for application in ECSE through 6th grade learning environments. Once again, the ASID Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to advancement of good design through its support of design and human behavior research. - Caren S. Martin, FASID
I am honored to have received the Graduate Legacy Scholarship and to be recognized by the American Society of Interior Designers. I am so grateful for the scholarship because it allows me to continue to pursue my passion for Interior Design at Parsons, and helps ease the financial burden of obtaining a Master's degree. - Stephanie Rodriguez
Receiving this award is such an incredible honor. It validates for me the importance of interior design in the home, perhaps the most powerful and significant place in our lives, in supporting a sense of well-being. - Emily Dyer, Student ASID
