Ethics Committee

The ASID Ethics Committee reviews the merit of any ethics complaint filed against an ASID member that has surpassed legal review and has not been mutually resolved between the two parties. The committee's main purpose is to decide if the case involves a possible ethics violation and if the case should be sent before a disciplinary committee. If the majority of the ethics committee decides the matter does not warrant a disciplinary proceeding, the case is then ruled closed. The committee does not determine guilt or innocence, but merely if the ethics complaint is valid and if the evidence presented warrants a disciplinary hearing.

The ASID headquarters staff liaison is Caitlin Lewis. To reach a member of the Ethics Committee, please submit your inquiry to clewis@asid.org.

Ethics Committee members include:

Meredith Blair Hayes, ASID, CID - CHAIR

Why do I serve as a volunteer leader for ASID?
At the introduction to ASID as a sophomore interior design student, I recognized being on the older end of 'student' that classwork alone wouldn't carry my career and the professional development and networking ASID offered would be just as important. I signed on then in 1996, and they haven't been able to get rid of me since!

How has ASID impacted my career?
I have never had to apply for work, because networking via ASID has always been able to lead employment via word of mouth. Those were the 'good 'ol days' and now it's equally as important to use professional organizations to get to know designers at every level. Working in an office for 10 years along with ASID gave me the skills to branch out on my own. Now working from home with children underfoot, ASID is one of the lifelines to the world of design and my central 'go-to' for anything as I do a variety of specialties and always have questions about sources, trades, anything.

What do you hope to accomplish during your term of service?

During the upcoming year I hope to learn more about the purpose and depth of our code of ethics. This will enable me to help members in the future with questions and issues regarding ethics, in hopes to decrease the possibility of member violations.

Why do I serve as a volunteer leader for ASID?
I have served as a volunteer for ASID as a method to first get to know others in the field, then to learn more about those with specialties and also to have better access to the industry partners and what they have to offer. In the end it has been the friendship and support, business and otherwise, that has kept me going as a volunteer for 7 years.
